Workshop

May 27-31st 2024 Four Days, Four Nights Maximum 6 participants Every spring, the Seward Peninsula erupts with life. Grizzly bears come out of their dens, muskoxen calves are born, and migratory birds begin to arrive in the thousands. Vibrant Eurasian bluethroats display above in the mountain willows. Long-tailed jaegers hunt for rodents in the tundra, and foxes prowl for nesting shorebirds. Wolverines dig the melting snow patches for carrion. It seems that everywhere one looks, there is some intriguing wildlife spectacle along Nome's three highways, and I am thrilled to share this experience with six adventurous guests. Itinerary: Day 1 - Introduction In Nome the sun rises at 5 AM and sets at 1 AM this time of year, but the light never fades entirely. Because of this, we will be flipping our sleep schedules in order to prioritize the soft golden light throughout the night. Some of my favorite shots from the Nome tundra were captured at 2 AM. If we do have cloud cover and precipitation we may adjust things so that everyone feels rested. We will begin with an introductory lunch on the 27th, then we'll head just outside of town to scout for our first wildlife before checking into our hotel. Thus begins our first night of wildlife photography! Days 2-4 - Photography! We will lead by example to get you a variety of creative compositions including backlight, action shots, and portraits. After photographing the muskox & birds near town, we will depart on one of the three roads which depart from Nome. Each road is between 70-80 miles long and will give us plenty of ground to cover as we explore the area for wildlife. Day 5 - Final Day Our trip concludes with a final early morning outing on the 31st chosen collectively by the group in order to photograph any species we may not have had time to focus on. Feel free to book an additional night if you would like to explore the area even further! However, you will need to book your own vehicle rental if you choose to do so. Cost Per Person: $2,500 $1,000 deposit required to secure booking. The remaining $1,500 is due 60 days prior to the workshop date. Included: Two guides & their dedicated mentorship Lodging (doubles) Four-wheel drive van for easy transportation Cash for local taxis NOT included: Camera gear Waders Hiking boots Food Transportation to/from Nome Please note that there will not be cell service or bathrooms outside of town Feel free to reach out with any questions!
