Workshop

October 11-15th 2024 Five Days, Four Nights Maximum 6 participants Fall transforms the sub-arctic tundra into reds and golds across the Seward Peninsula. In this photography workshop you are likely to encounter muskoxen during their rut, foxes, rough-legged hawks, and grizzlies in the expansive landscape. We will photograph these animals in dramatic morning and evening light with a variety of backgrounds ranging from the Nome coast up to the high alpine. Once the light fades we will keep watch for the aurora borealis, which can be seen on most clear nights at this latitude. Itinerary: Day 1 - Introduction The workshop begins at 10:30 AM at the Aurora Inn, where will you meet your guides, Sergius Hannan and Kris Luckenbach! After introductions we will set out to search for wildlife in the hills surrounding the historic town of Nome. There is a local grocery store where you can purchase any food items you might like for road trips and to-go lunches. However, the prices are expensive and I definitely recommend bringing your own snacks and large water bottles to last you throughout the day! Days 2-4 - Photography! We will lead by example to get you a variety of creative compositions including backlight, action shots, and portraits. Each morning we will set out well before the 9 AM sunrise on one of the three roads departing Nome. Each road is between 70-80 miles long and will give us plenty of ground to cover as we explore the area for wildlife. Day 5 - Final Day We will get up early for sunrise to photograph one of the muskox herds close to town. After the light gets harsh, we will head back to check out of our hotels and grab a final lunch. We will have a few hours afterwards for one last outing if the light is inspiring (overcast) before we conclude our workshop and depart on our evening flights back to Anchorage. Feel free to book an additional night if you would like to explore the area even further! However, you will need to book your own vehicle rental if you choose to do so. Cost Per Person: $2,750 $1,000 deposit required to secure booking. The remaining $1,750 is due 60 days prior to the workshop date. Included: Two guides & their dedicated mentorship Lodging (doubles) Four-wheel drive van for easy transportation Cash for local taxis NOT included: Camera gear Rubber boots Hiking boots Food Transportation to/from Nome Please note that there will not be cell service or bathrooms outside of town Feel free to reach out with any questions!
