2024 Bear Camp

  • 4,000 US dollars
  • Katmai National Park

Workshop

Join Sergius and Kristoff on an all inclusive, four day/three night camping expedition immersed in the remote wilderness of Katmai National Park, home to one of the densest populations of brown bears in the world. They will provide a safe and educational experience in which you will learn to artistically photograph these powerful animals fishing for salmon and clamming, all while surrounded by volcanoes, glaciers, and mountains. Unlike shorter day trips, Bear Camp will allow you to photograph these abundant bears in the best lighting conditions during early morning and evening as the sun sets over the mountains. All experience levels are welcome! *moderate fitness level required *6 guests total August 15-18th August 18-21st Day 1 Your journey begins first thing in the morning at Sasquatch Alaska Adventures who will brief you on aircraft safety. Each of the two planes will transport three guests and their luggage. The flight is just over one hour long, but time will go quickly as you fly over the scenic Kachemak Bay, Mt. Augustine, and the coast of Katmai before descending for a smooth beach landing. Here you will meet your guides, Sergius and Kristoff, who will lead you to your camp. Once settled in, we'll pack our gear and lunch before setting out to find our first coastal brown bears. After spending the day capturing incredible bear photos, we'll return to camp for a hot meal. We'll maximize the remaining daylight and stay out through sunset. Days 2-3 Early morning breakfast & coffee/chai, then MORE bears! If it's clear out we will leave as early as 6 AM to shoot backlit bears as the sun rises over the ocean. The rest of the day will follow a similar schedule to Day 1 with a pack lunch in the field. If the light is too harsh, some group members may choose to go back to the camp with one of the guides. Each evening will end with a sunset outing after dinner. Day 4 Our journey concludes with an epic sunrise outing. With full hearts and the fullest SD cards, we'll help you load the planes and say our goodbyes. Included: - flights to/from our camp - private tent - sleeping pads - hip waders - food + storage - water - solar generator - snacks - electric fences - first aid, marine flares, sat phone NOT included: - flights to/from Homer - sleeping bags - pillows - camera gear - rain gear More information will be sent out!
