Kodiak, Alaska
Set-net commercial fishing in Alaska was a magical experience. Unlike other commercial fishing operations, the slower pace of set-netting allows you to take time off from the laborious task of picking thousands of lbs. of salmon out of the nets per day. Whenever I got the chance, I would rinse off the fish slime covering my face by taking a sauna on the beach by the creek where the brown bears would come down to catch pink salmon. Other times I would kayak around the isalnd, hike a nearby mountain, or watch for pods of orcas swimming through the Kodiak Fiords from the beach.
