2025 Kachemak Bay (2 Days)

July 25-27th 2025 Two days, two nights Maximum 5 participants Welcome to my hometown of Homer, Alaska, overlooking scenic Kachemak Bay. The bay is full of life, from the graceful humpback whales below to the bald eagles, puffins, and cormorants circling overhead. Join me on my two day workshop exploring this marine haven via a private boat tour, captained by experienced naturalists. Itinerary: Day 1 The workshop begins in the afternoon of July 25th where you will be transported from the airport to your lodging. Once checked in, we will visit the local store to get pack lunches and snacks for the following days. After a group dinner, we will visit the wetlands to look for sandhill cranes with their chicks and then photograph eagles, otters, and shorebirds on the Homer spit until sunset. Day 2 We will arrive at the docks at 5 AM just before sunrise to begin our 6-hour boat tour through the Kachemak Bay, where we will photograph nesting tufted puffins, humpback whales, sea otters, common murres, pigeon guillemots, cormorants, and many other pelagic species. If the weather allows, we will explore just outside of the bay to visit the sea lion colony and search for more elusive creatures such as rhinoceros auklets, orcas, and storm petrels. After a wildlife filled morning, we will return back to the harbor. At that time we will break and guests will have the free time to explore the beach, walk along the Homer Spit boardwalk shops, or just take a rest. After dinner we will drive north to look for shorebirds such as semipalmated plovers, turnstones, whimbrels, godwits, terns, harriers, merlin, and eagles at the Anchor River until sunset. Day 3 Our final morning follows the same schedule as the day prior, beginning at 5 AM for a Kachemak Bay boat tour. The more time spent out in the bay, the more opportunities there are for incredible wildlife encounters! The workshop will conclude in the early afternoon. Cost Per Person: $2,250 $1,125 deposit required to secure booking. The remaining $1,125 is due 60 days prior to the workshop date.
